INDEX ECOSYSTEM / 01
S&P 500.The market beneath the instrument.
Study the relationship between an index reference, an ETF and the futures and options associated with that ecosystem. Similar exposure does not make these products interchangeable.
01 / THE CONTEXT
Read the ecosystem.
The S&P 500 is the index reference. SPY is an ETF with listed options. XSP and SPX are index-option products. MES and ES are index futures.
- SPY → ETF and listed ETF options
- XSP / SPX → Index options
- MES → Micro index futures
- ES → E-mini index futures
02 / THE CONTEXT
Ask the mechanical questions first.
What does the contract represent? What happens at expiration? How does the position create exposure? Which costs and execution limitations apply?
The curriculum studies settlement, exercise, leverage, liquidity and contract selection. Technical specifications must be checked against current exchange or issuer documentation.
03 / THE CONTEXT
One ecosystem. Different study tracks.
Shared foundations lead to futures or options education. An E-mini contract is not an achievement, and a Micro contract is not automatically safe.
